Two inside knee picks

Just a quick post to look at two inside knee picks for comparison.

The first is one we have looked at recreating in Sambo class. Red pulls heavily on the collar with his right hand, while simultaneously blocking the foot with his right instep. This keeps the leg in place when he reaches for the inside knee pick. Keeping the collar grip allows him to get a really good twisting control of the torso and ensure his opponents back is exposed to the mat.

The second example comes from Freestyle wrestling and begins with a two on one. This time the collar grip is replaced with a hand high in the armpit. Again, the right foot comes forward to block and allow the left hand to pick the inside of the knee. Red slides down to the ankle by the end of the technique but it begins again at the knee. In this case, lacking the collar, red drives more forward with her head and blue takes the fall more backward as a result.

Two knee picks, one in sambo wrestling and one in freestyle wrestling.

In both contexts this is a high scoring, low risk attack that can easily be added into a wrestlers game plan. I myself tend to use similar grips and footwork to set up drop a fireman’s carry, but this knee pick is significantly less committal. Give it a try and let me know that you think.
